The Return of the Par-3 Shootout
The beginning of a new tournament season saw the return of a unique event. Last held in 2020 at RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley, the Par-3 Shootout is an exciting way to start the year. This time, the Par-3 Shootout was held at a different RTJ Golf Trail location at Grand National Short Course in Opelika, Alabama.
The event consisted of 21 teams of two PGA Professionals. The 2-Player Best Ball tournament could not have had better weather conditions for a February tournament. There was a hint of spring in the air, and the energy was high as many hoped to sink a hole-in-one on the Short Course. Unfortunately, there were no hole-in-ones during this tournament. Hopes remain high that someone will finally sink one and claim the win in the Section’s Hole-in-One Club.
Todd Bailey and Mike Genovese shot 6-under-par 48 to win the first tournament of the year. In second, Troy Raybon and Matt Sheppard shot 4-under par. There was a three-way tie for third between Mike Beverly and Joe McNally, Robbie Blackwell and Ty Zimmerman, and Dominic Diaz and Ryan McLean with all three teams shooting 2-under par. The four teams that tied for sixth were the only other groups to finish under par.
Thank you to our host professional Joe McNally and the staff at RTJ Golf Trail at Grand National for hosting this event!
