BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 17, 2019) – The 2019 Oakley Pro – Junior was played on Tuesday at Pine Tree Country Club.  The field of twenty-five teams represented all corners of the Section and boasted a field of over ninety players – the largest this event has seen in six years.  Each group consisted of one PGA Professional and three juniors playing in a scramble format.

All groups were shot gunned at 12:30 PM under sunny skies with a comfortable breeze stiffening as the day progressed.  The team from Trussville Country Club with PGA Professional, Chris Rigdon, and juniors, Abbygayle Stacey, Stuart Dixon and Molly Brown Davidson, finished with a sizzling 18-under par, 54.  The team was nearly flawless making eagles on both par-fives on the back nine.  The team from the Country Club of Birmingham with PGA Associate, Andrew Brewster, and juniors, Graham Hodges, Mac Scott and Phil Cook, filed in closely behind with an equally impressive round of 17-under par, 55.

The day ended with an awards ceremony and dinner in the upstairs banquet room at Pine Tree Country Club where the top seven teams received plaques and a photo-op.  Additionally, the top three teams received Oakley merchandise.

The Alabama – NW Florida PGA would like to extend its highest praises to Paul Whitman, PGA Director of Golf, and the rest of the Pine Tree Country Club staff for being phenomenal hosts to our PGA Professionals, juniors and parents.  “We love hosting the Pro-Junior at Pine Tree Country Club, and I believe it’s one of the best tournaments on our schedule.  It’s special because the kids have so much fun and the memories they make with their PGA Professionals last a lifetime,” says Whitman.

Finally, a big thank you to Jon Cooley and Oakley for their support for junior golf in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
