Section Professionals Volunteer at PGA WORKS Youth Day

This past Saturday, twenty Section Professionals volunteered at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship Youth Day at Shoal Creek Club. We couldn’t have asked for a better day! For many of the kids, this was their first introduction to golf.

We had four stations set up, putting, chipping, full swing, and a career discussion. The kids came from various local youth organizations including Fore Alabama Kids, Jack and Jill of Birmingham, and I3 Academy. In addition to our outstanding Section Professionals, the kids also got to hang out with Babe Ruff from the Birmingham Barons, Commander from the Birmingham Squadron, and the Golden Bear from Miles College. The Purple Marching Machine from Miles College also made a surprise appearance. The kids sang and danced to music from DJ Sillz in between learning the basics of golf.

After lunch, the kids were treated to a trick shot exhibition from Eric Eshleman and Chris Biggins. The exhibition featured magic hats, bowling, and even a three-headed golf club. Jeff Jordan made a special appearance when he hit an exploding golf ball which, of course, resulted in many cheers from the kids. Each kid received a swag bag complete with a water bottle, a booklet with information on PGA Jr. League, and some golf balls.

Overall, it was a wonderful day. We hope that this fun introduction to the game of golf positively impacted the kids who attended and sparks a lifelong passion for the game.
