Richards Crowned Match Play Champion

For the sixth year in a row, the Match Play season officially kicked off at Indian Hills Country Club in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 22nd. This year, the Second Round and Third Round were also played on April 23rd at Indian Hills C. C. The Semifinals and Final Round were held on July 8th at Shoal Creek Club.

After the qualifying round, Jacob Greer and Dylan Moncus claimed the top seeds. They both finished the Qualifying Round 2-under-par 69.

Todd Bailey, Ty Zimmerman, and Paul McClure finished 1-under-par 70 to take the No. 3, No. 4, and No.5 seeds, respectively. Jeff Jordan, Robert Whitt, and Andrew Peyton tied for sixth shooting even par.

Following Qualifying, the top 32 of the 52 players were sorted into the bracket, and First Round matches began. First Round winners included Jacob Greer, Christian Bosso, Lawrence Auer, Brian Corn, Ty Zimmerman, Caleb Maraman, Paul McClure, Robbie Blackwell, Dylan Moncus, John Racciatti Jr., Brian Richards, Jammie Lett, Tee Brown, Dominic Diaz, Dawson Mounce, and Noah Martino. These 16 players returned Tuesday morning hoping to advance. As the Third Round came to an end, Zimmerman, Martino, Bosso, and Richards were the final four who progressed to the next round.

At Shoal Creek, Zimmerman defeated Bosso in 22 holes, and Richards defeated Martino 6 and 4 to solidify their place in the Final Round. Richards, playing at his home course, defeated Zimmerman 5 and 4 to be crowned the 2024 Alabama – NW Florida Section Match Play Champion.
