Birmingham, AL (May 8, 2019) — The 2019 Alabama Chapter Championship presented by Jerry Pate Company, Club Car & Mobile Pro Shop was contested May 6 and 7 at Pine Tree Country Club. Forty-two players teed it up in a shotgun start at 10:00 AM on beautiful morning – it would be Ron Stromeyer of Pine Tree Country Club who took the early lead firing a round of 6-under par 66. David Pilkington of Pensacola Country Club and Todd McCorkle of Old Overton Club filed in closely behind with scores of 69 and 70.
The Second Round was met with a chilly morning and more sunshine. Players began their rounds with tee times running from 8:00 AM to 10:10 AM. Stromeyer got off to a slow start and was not able to recover from a 39 on the front nine. A group of five players were able to work their way back to the top of the leaderboard. Life Member, Mike Genovese, fired a 4-under par 68, but it would not be enough as McCorkle was able to birdie three of his last six holes to take the title by three strokes.
The Alabama – NW Florida PGA would like to extend its sincerest thanks to host PGA Professionals, Paul Whitman and Ron Stromeyer, and the rest of the Pine Tree Country Club staff for helping put on a great Championship for the Alabama Chapter. The 2019 Gulf Coast Chapter Championship presented by Mobile Pro Shop will be contested September 23 and 24 at Kiva Dunes in Gulf Shores, AL.
