Goodwin Outlasts Wood in Four-Hole Playoff to Capture Assistant PGA Professional Championship
Carter Goodwin, Assistant Professional at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club, secured the Alabama – NW Florida Assistant PGA Professional Championship title at Mountain Brook Club, defeating Ben Wood on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff.
Goodwin and Wood concluded 36 holes of regulation play tied atop the leaderboard at 7-under-par 135, establishing a five-stroke lead over the remainder of the field. After three playoff holes failed to break the deadlock, Goodwin converted on the fourth extra hole to claim the championship trophy.
In addition to the tournament victory, the event determined the Section’s qualifiers for the upcoming 2026 National Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Christian Bosso (Pensacola Country Club) and Tee Brown (Twin Bridges Golf Club) earned the Section’s two qualifying spots and will compete November 12th through 15th at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Both Goodwin and Wood demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the two-day Championship. Goodwin posted nine birdies across 36 holes to maintain his position at the top, while Wood sank an impressive nine birdies and one eagle of his own.
Beyond the playoff contenders, Bosso delivered a standout performance, recording a tournament-high 10 birdies over two rounds. Bosso finished tied for third place at 2-under-par alongside Brown, securing their national tournament spots.
JD Vinson also recorded nine birdies for the tournament, finishing tied for ninth place at 4-over-par.
