Double Eagle for the Win

The Alabama Chapter Championship ended with much excitement. As the final group approached the last hole, Neil Thompson and Christian Bosso were tied at eight-under-par through 35 holes with the 563-yard par-5 hole at FarmLinks Golf Club left to play. Jake Greer was the leader in the clubhouse, having already posted a final score of eight-under-par 136.

However, with the course playing firm and fast, both Thompson and Bosso hit big tee shots and the par-5 green would be reachable in just two shots. Thompson played first and missed the green to the left. From 210 yards, Bosso hit a perfect 6-iron shot towards the green. The players couldn’t see that the shot was so perfect that it gently rolled into the hole for a double eagle and a walk-off victory for Bosso.

With the double eagle, Bosso carded an 11-under-par 133 and finished at the top of the leaderboard for the Open Division. Thompson finished 9-under-par 135, and Greer landed in third. David Hanson’s 6-under-par 138 put him in fourth, and Ron Stromeyer and Ty Zimmerman carded a 4-under-par 140 to tie for fifth.

In the Senior Division, Mike Genovese had the lowest score of any division with a 16-under-par 128. Jeff Copeland finished 7-under-par for second place, and Lawrence Auer finished 6-under-par for third place. Ned Martin was the only other player in the Senior Division to finish under par with a 1-under-par 143 to land in fourth place.

We also had seven players in the Super Senior Division, and Mike Parrish’s 1-over-par 145 was enough to put him in first place. Steve Lyles, Carl Pedersen, James Awsumb, Ed Davis, Allen Austin, and Jim Brotherton rounded out the Super Senior Division.
