Debonis Gets First Victory of 2020

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (Oct. 19, 2020) – The fifth and final PGA Tour Stroke Play Series event was held at Lakewood Golf Club in Fairhope on Monday.  Twenty Section Members and Associates teed it up as much of the area is still recovering from Hurricane Sally.  The original host for our 2020 Gulf Coast Chapter Championship, Lakewood still provided pristine conditions and comfortable temperatures throughout the day.

David Pilkington (Pensacola C.C.) made headway early on the front nine making three birdies on holes one, five and six.  He finished the front nine with a bogey, a double-bogey and birdie etching out a one-under par 35.  He was able to stabilize some on the back nine with a bogey on hole ten and two birdies, finishing his round at two-under par, 70.

Meanwhile, Jordan Debonis (The Ledges) created some separation early in his round making an eagle and two birdies on his front nine, and turning in four under par, 32.  He would finish where he started making three birdies, a bogey and double bogey on the back nine.  This would still be enough to squeeze out a win over Pilkington by two shots.  This is Jordan’s first victory of the 2020 season where he has finished in the top ten five out of six events this season.

Rounding out the top five are Neil Thompson (RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley) and Paul McClure (RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove) who both finished at one-under par, 71.  Finally, Jeff Jordan (Mountain Brook Club) and Curtis Ohrn (FarmLinks G.C.) finished in the tied for fifth spot at even-par, 72.

The Section would like to extend its thanks to PGA Professional, Daniel Alldredge and the rest of the Lakewood staff for their hospitality and preparing a fantastic venue for our PGA Members and Associates in the wake of Hurricane Sally.
