BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 14, 2020) – The annual Alabama–NW Florida PGA Par-Three Shootout was again hosted at the picturesque RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley’s Short Course on Wednesday. An event we look forward to every year, twelve two-man teams from across the Section participated in this year’s edition.
The team from Hoover C.C., Jammie Lett and Rob Simpson, birdied only one hole on their front nine. They were able to find some magic on the back nine and birdied four holes to turn in a blemish-free round of five-under par, 49. The duo from Pine Tree C.C., Paul Whitman and Ron Stromeyer, birdied four of the first five holes on their front nine. They faltered some making a bogey on hole nine and continued their up and down round with three birdies and one more bogey on the back nine – they would also finish with a five-under par round of 49. Both teams would finish tied for first place.
Rounding out the top five included the team from FarmLinks G.C., Curtis Ohrn and Dylan Shephard, who finished alone in third place with a round of four-under par, 50. Capturing fourth place was the team of Rusty Stephens (Links at Tuscaloosa) and Bradley Ambler (Ol’ Colony G.C.) who finished at two-under par. Finally, the teams of Dominic Diaz (RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge) & Hayden Lewis (AL-NW FL PGA), Ed Davis (Frank House G.C.) & Jerry Applegate (Ballantrae G.C.), and Gary Christian (Golf Channel) & Jake Spott (Hoover C.C.) all finished in the tied for fifth place at one-under par.
The Section would like to extend its thanks to PGA Director of Golf, Eric Pigman, and the rest of the Oxmoor Valley staff for their support of this event over the last several years.
