DeBonis/Story Victorious in Final Event of the Year
The final event of the year was one for the books. The 2025 Team Championship was held at Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club and ended with an exciting 1-hole playoff victory for Jordan DeBonis and Brad Story.
Each team consisted of two Alabama – NW Florida Section Professionals or Associates. The tournament format was 18 holes of Scramble for the first round, while the second round was 18 holes of Shamble.
Tyler Mims/Nick Sawyer had a strong first round, shooting 14-under par and taking a three-stroke lead ahead of DeBonis/Story and Steve Cutler/Kyle Sullivan, who were tied for second.
Following play on Monday, players gathered at the clubhouse to enjoy the perfect November beach weather and spend time together, as this would be the final Section tournament of the year.
DeBonis/Story, who were one of two teams named co-champions of this event last year, made 21 birdies and only one bogey throughout the two rounds, finishing 20-under-par 124.
Ben Bates/Jay Lerille had a great second round, highlighted by one eagle and 10 birdies. They finished the second round at 11-under par to jump from tied for sixth into a tie with DeBonis/Story for first. These two teams competed in a 1-hole playoff with Story sinking the winning 35-foot birdie putt.
Cutler/Sullivan and Travis Johnson/Robert Whitt tied for third, at 17-under par. There was a four-way tie for fifth with Curtis Ohrn/Jake Greer, Luke Wilson/Christian Bosso, Rea Schuessler/Scott Smith, and Mims/Sawyer all finishing 16-under par.
